A Steampunk’s Guide to Sex

by Combustion Books

Your guide to the sexy side of steampunk, covering everything from kinky Victorian sexuality to contemporary subcultural sex.

The Book

As we start this kickstarter campaign, we’re more than halfway done writing A Steampunk’s Guide to Sex. The book covers both Victorian and contemporary sexuality, such as:

  • erotica
  • sex work
  • burlesque
  • BDSM
  • alternative sexualities
  • consent
  • sexual health
  • sex devices through the ages
  • historical attitudes on sex

and includes a great number of how-to guides covering such things as:

  • DIY floggers made with bike tubes
  • steam-powered vibrators
  • Victorian aphrodisiacs

One of the most common reactions we get, when describing the book to someone new, is: “Oh, so you’re taking this seriously?” Absolutely. We intend for this book to be fun, lighthearted, fascinating, and useful. There will be a mix of neat history and of information applicable to contemporary subcultures.

The Art

The book will be illustrated with steamy modern photos shot with the historical tintype process. The camera we’re using is almost exactly 100 years old, the lens is from 1891 and the process itself is older still. Unlike the more modern negative film process, we’re shooting positive, one-of-a-kind images directly onto aluminum plates.

The Wrylon Robotical Illustrated Catalog of Botanical ‘Bots

by barry mcwilliams

The last catalog from the world’s first, and only, robotic flower delivery company. Fully illustrated and stocked with ‘bot love.

It’s all that’s left of Wrylon Robotical – an old catalog, some letters and a few newspaper clippings. But it’s not just any copy of the catalog. It’s Rhoderick’s wife’s copy and tucked in between its pages are a few clues to the mysterious disappearance of the ‘bots. It’s not the full story. It’s just a tease. The catalog won’t tell you where they went – but it might get you interested. If this Kickstarter is successful I’d love to continue telling the story.

The 1912 catalog includes ten main ‘bots (with schematics), in addition to a few non-delivery models, sketches, adverts and company history.

R-20

by Diego

In a CG animated story the robot R-20 seeks freedom to love an organic woman.

R-20 reveals and explores the internal power that drives us. Our main character R-20 awakens to find himself abandoned in an old rusty store.  as if still in a nightmare, he searches within for a resource state never used to reach out for what he loves.

To create this CG film, we built a scale model of 4.2 feet long by 2.6feet wide for the background and environment. We used stop motion animation to capture the room.
The 3D highly detailed model integrates into this room. We put 3D bones in 3D and then animate it using a software called Maya.
